NewsFactor – If Google’s stock price were linked to its reputation among fellow advocates for an open Internet, the search giant would find its market value tanking. On the day after the joint announcement by Google and Verizon Wireless of a proposed policy framework for the wired and wireless Internet, consumer groups, as well as a variety of industry bloggers and some Internet companies, are highly critical of the companies’ vision.

Reuters – Mortgage finance giant Freddie Mac on Monday said it would need another $1.8 billion in aid from taxpayers, bringing its total request since it was taken over by the government two years ago to more than $64 billion.

PC World – Google this week confirmed its acquisition of online entertainment company Slide. The purchase rehashed speculation that the search giant is interested in working its way into social media, possibly with a game-centered service called “Google Me.”

Reuters – The top Republican on the House Financial Services Committee called on Friday for an investigation into charges that mortgage finance giant Fannie Mae pushed borrowers into a mortgage aid program so it could receive incentive payments from the U.S. government.
