Alibaba’s Aliyun mobile OS runs Android apps (Digital Trends)

Digital Trends – Reports have been swirling that Chinese e-commerce leader Alibaba was getting ready to launch its own mobile operating system, and today Alibaba Cloud Computing officially unveiled the Aliyun OS. Aliyun OS is based on Linux and will launch next month on a Chinese-manufactured K-Touch Cloud-Smart Phone W700 at the end of this month.

Apple iTV Gets Apps in September, Says Digg Founder (PC World)

PC World – Apple has a revamped Apple TV dubbed iTV scheduled to launch this September, sources within the company purportedly told Digg founder Kevin Rose. As previously speculated, iTV would be powered by the iOS operating system, cost $99, and run apps, just like the iPhone and iPad do.

HP Tablet Hobbled by Lack of WebOS Apps (PC World)

PC World – Now that Hewlett-Packard has announced plans to release a webOS tablet early next year, its next big goal–in addition to building the device–is to persuade software developers to write apps for the mobile gadget. Given the early popularity of Apple’s iPad, as well as the imminent arrival of numerous tablets running Google’s Android OS, that task could prove challenging.

Which is a good thing because it means technology has only been advancing, thus getting better and better; but when you’ve been kind of a Luddite for years like I have, returning to the home entertainment world is almost like learning a new language.
